Assassins is a live-action convention game where you are tasked with finding target players while avoiding players trying to find you. Finding your target "assassinates" that player, preventing them from being able to attack other players, and represents a "kill". Your goal is to assassinate as many players as possible before you are eliminated or the game ends.
You will receive a kit with everything you need to play the game. Your Assassins Kit consists of a badge, a badge holder, a card with your first target (also known as a KillTag) and a card to give to your Assassin should you be assassinated, also known as a DeathCard.
Your Badge
|
The major element of your badge is a symbol consisting of a large colored shape printed on a black background. This symbol represents you as the player, and it will be what other players look for when searching for their targets. The large 5-letter code above the symbol is your Badge Code. It's used to link your kit to your account on http://www.phenixone.com and for scoring purposes in the Primary and Secondary Tiers of gameplay. Below your Badge Code is a summary of what to do should you assassinate a target or be assassinated yourself. |

|
The KillTag in your kit has a smaller symbol that shows you who your first target will be. It also has a copy of your badge code that will be used to register the assassination of the target online. At the beginning of the game, this KillTag is considered your current KillTag. However, after assassinating a player, the KillTag you receive from them will become your current KillTag. |

Your DeathCard
|
Your DeathCard is business-card sized and has a 10-letter code on it. The code is used by your assassin to register their kill on the site. Make sure to place your DeathCard behind your badge in its holder and to keep it safe. Should you lose your card, contact the game administrator to receive a new one. Contact details will be sent out prior to the start of the game. |

Your badge holder should be worn on your right arm, anywhere above the elbow, and should face out from the side of your body. Do not cover it or wear anything that could prevent another a player from reasonably seeing your badge.
If you have a problem with the fit of your badge holder, let us know we'll do whatever we can do to assist you. In the event that you are wearing a costume and will not be able to wear the badge holder as intended, you can modify the holder as long as it meets the guidelines listed above.
Should you lose your badge holder, contact the game administrator to receive a new one for a fee. Contact details will be sent out prior to the start of the game.
Assassins has two tiers of gameplay called the Primary Tier and Secondary Tier. The Primary Tier involves the gameplay most associated with Assassins, where players attempt to find and assassinate their targets without being assassinated themselves. In the event a player is assassinated, they will be unable to hunt players and participate in the Primary Tier gameplay.
The Secondary Tier allows players to collect intel on any player, where the intel is a players Badge Code. Even if you are assassinated, you will be able to participate in the Secondary Tier.
Primary Tier Gameplay consists of you hunting and eliminating one target that matches your current KillTag. The KillTag will list a specific shape/color combination, but you may target any player that has a matching shape, regardless of color. This means that you will have multiple possible targets, based on the player population.

Based on the KillTag shown above, any of the three players' Badges shown to the right are valid targets. However, the Badge that matches both the shape and the color, called the Specific Target, is worth more than a Badge that matches only the shape, called a Generic Target. |

Before you can assassinate a player, you need to be sure that it is one of your targets. Each symbol has two registration points on the top and left side to denote its orientation. Use these registration points should you be unsure on the orientation of the symbol on your KillTag. Match up the shapes to determine whether the player is a target.
After finding a target, approach the player and inform them you are their assassin. Feel free to do so in your own particular style and idiom, but be mindful of your surroundings and non-disruptive. Should your target be performing an activity that would be disrupted by you approaching them, please wait for the player to finish before approaching.
Once you have eliminated a target, the following things need to occur:
Because multiple targets are available to each assassin, it is possible for two assassins to have each other as targets. If this occurs, the kill goes to whichever assassin reveals his KillTag to his target first. If both players do this at the same time the players can call a binding-truce for the rest of the game or decide the kill with a best-of-three Rock-Paper-Scissors match.
If a player approaches you and informs you they are your assassin, ensure that their current KillTag specifies your symbol as a target. If this is the case, you have been assassinated and must relinquish your current KillTag and your DeathCard to your assassin. To ensure other players know you’ve been assasinated, flip your badge upside-down so the symbol is on the bottom.
Certain areas are considered off-limits for attacking other Assassins players. When a player is in one of these areas they cannot be eliminated. Below is a list of the safe zones in Assassins:
Safe Zones exist so you can enjoy activities at the convention, not as a means to avoid being killed. Using the safe zones in this way will be considered cheating and appropriate action will be taken.
The Secondary Tier of gameplay adds a free-for-all element to Assassins. In this tier, players can gather "Intel" by recording any player's Badge Code and entering it in the Secondary Tier area of the site. You may only gather Intel on a specific player once during the game, but there is no limit to the number of players you can gather Intel on.
When you receive your kit you will need to register your badge. To register your badge, go to http://www.phenixone.com/assassins-registration and select the schedule for the game you're playing. Enter your Badge Code into the field provided and click Register Badge. You will receive confirmation that your badge has been registered.
Your score in the game is determined by the number of successful attacks you complete in both the Primary and Secondary Tiers. Assassinating a player (Primary Tier) is worth 15 points for a Specific Target or 10 points for a Generic Target. Gathering Intel on a player (Secondary Tier) is worth 1 point.
